STEWART SPINKS DONATES TO THE GREENVILLE TECH FOUNDATION
Stewart Spinks on behalf of Spinx Inc. donated a 1983 Falcon 10 Dassault aircraft to the Greenville Tech Foundation for the college’s Aircraft Maintenance Technology Program in addition to a scholarship for the college’s Culinary Institute of the Carolinas on Monday afternoon.
The aircraft has an estimated value of $300,000 and will allow Aircraft Maintenance Technology students to master the skills required to become certified maintenance technicians. The Dassault is now part of a fleet of jet and reciprocating engine aircraft used for the hands-on component of the curriculum in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved program.
“We are very grateful to Stewart Spinks and Spinx Inc. for providing us with an excellent tool for teaching,” said Carl Washburn, department head for Aircraft Maintenance Technology and Truck Driver Training at Greenville Technical College. “This support ensures that our program delivers graduates with the skills to enter the workplace prepared for success.”
Spinx also endowed a scholarship for the culinary arts. The $25,000 scholarship will be used to provide scholarships for students enrolled in a certificate, degree, diploma or vocational course through the Culinary Institute of the Carolinas at GTC. Recipients will be selected by the College Scholarship Committee at the Greenville Tech Foundation. To be eligible for the awards, students must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA from previous high school or college academic work.
“A scholarship can make all the difference in whether a student is able to start, stay, and succeed,” said Alan Scheidhauer, department head for the program. “This generous donation will go a long way in helping students become well equipped for the culinary field and in delivering the graduates that area restaurants and businesses require to prosper and grow.”
